Hiking trails and walks

Hiking around the Lac Blanc resort

Lac Blanc, located in the heart of the Vosges Mountains and just 20 kilometres from the Kaysersberg Valley, is a must-visit for hiking enthusiasts. Nestled at an altitude of 1,055 metres, this mountain lake offers an exceptional natural setting, blending forests, peaks, and breathtaking views. Whether you’re a beginner or experienced hiker, Lac Blanc offers trails suitable for all levels. The hiking trails around Lac Blanc Resort are marked by the Vosgian Club. Rectangle, ring, diamond, or disc, in red, blue, yellow, or green—you’ll see all sorts of colours along the trails! Each sign informs you about the route taken or to follow: discover the meaning of this signage here.

For seasoned hikers, the famous GR©5 Long Distance Footpath crosses the region. From Lac Blanc, you can join longer routes leading to the Vosges ridges with stunning views of the Alsace Plain and the Alps on clear days.

Put on your walking boots and wind your way through the trails for a few kilometres! You’ll enjoy the magnificent mountain views, its meadows, its lakes (Blanc, Noir, Forlet), and its wildlife and flora.

Our tips for hiking

  • Make sure to bring an IGN map to follow the trail markers more easily (IGN maps are available for purchase at our reception offices).
  • Check the weather or our webcams, updated every 10 minutes, before heading out.
  • Don’t overestimate yourself—choose a route suited to your level.
  • Remember to bring a warm layer; the trails can be shaded, and temperatures are cooler at altitude, even in summer!
  • Make sure to wear proper footwear. Good hiking boots are much better than flip-flops or casual shoes!
  • Lastly, be an eco-conscious hiker and take your rubbish with you. It will help keep the wildlife and nature at their best.

Adopt the Quietude Attitude

Good habits to adopt when I go hiking at Lac Blanc:

  • I prefer to follow the marked trails of the Vosgian Club.
  • When in a group, I hike in silence.
  • On multi-day treks, I opt for overnight stays in a mountain lodge or refuge.
